Sonego Grabs First Title In Antalya

In the final of the Turkish Airlines Antalya Open which brough together two player seeking their first ATP championship, Lorenzo Sonego emerged triumphant defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-1 and won his inaugural Tour-level title.

In the final of Turkish Airlines Antalya Open, 24-year-old Lorenzo Sonego arose victorious after trailing from one set behind and saving a match point.


In the first two sets, both players held on to their serves but Sonego managed to keep his performance intact in the final set. Italian player defeated Kecmanovic after breaking him twice in the third set and recoding 25 aces overall in the 2 hour 49 minutes long play.

Unseeded Sonego, who was yet to reach beyond quarter finals in ATP tournaments before Antalya, defeated 3 seeds en route to the final.

Sonego was awarded 76.000 euros with his first title at the Antalya Open and will placed at no. 46 in te world rankings with a 29-step leap.


WIMBLEDON NEXT

At the trophy ceremony, Sonego said: "I am very happy. I really like playing on the grass. Up next is Wimbledon for me. We are great friends with Kecmanovic. He performed remarkably as well. I hope we play at the same level in Wimbledon too."

About the conditions in Antalya, Sonego stated: "This is a great city. It was really hot all week bu as players we need to know how to cope with the heat. I extend my gratitude to my coach and everyone who supported me along the way."
